The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken into consideration the difficulties faced by visually impaired individuals when it comes to conducting their day-to-day banking activities involving Indian banknotes. The MANI application has been developed to assist the visually impaired in identifying the denomination of Indian banknotes from both the Mahatma Gandhi Series and the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. This is achieved by capturing an image of the note using the rear mobile camera, after which the application will generate audio and non-sonic notifications to inform the user about the currency note denomination.

MANI works in conjunction with the Talkback feature available on Android phones, providing visually impaired users with a more accessible way to interact with their mobile devices.

Please note that MANI is provided free of charge by the RBI for the benefit of visually challenged individuals who need assistance in identifying Indian banknote denominations. It is important to acknowledge that neither the RBI, its authorities, agencies, officers, employees, nor advisors provide any warranty or guarantee regarding the completeness or accuracy of the results generated by the application. The actual results may vary due to factors such as differences in lighting conditions, condition of the banknotes, and disruption from nearby objects. Therefore, users are advised to use their own judgment and cross-reference the denomination results obtained from the app with other methods of banknote identification.
